Self Evident Truths

One of my favorite talks from TEDxWomen on Saturday was the story of photographer iO Tillett Wright and her project Self Evident Truths. She was self-assured and cocky in the best ways possible and her project brings that confidence and encouragement to the LGBTQ community. She had a very interesting story of…changing her identity as she was going up in an offhand way. For years she was a boy to everyone who knew her, until when she was fourteen and decided to identify as girl again. Not the undermine the struggle she probably faced, but she spoke of a childhood where she was accepted while she was exploring her identity and I think that’s wonderful. No criticism and judgement. I would like to think that if we all grew up in an open and accepting environment we would have the confidence to claim our self-worth (Of course, I’m completely guilty of being a social wimp).

Besides that, iO’s photos are gorgeous.
