  • Inside Quotes: On Relationships

I’ve realized I’ve been self-reflecting way too much lately. To the point where they’re not even accurate or helpful “insights.” I need to stop putting myself in a box.  So something a little light-hearted this week:

ME: Why is my life like this?
KYLE: I’m afraid I have no answers. Your life is like a twilight zone episode.

LAURA: …and she said “I don’t mind at all”
    ME: She is PISSED!
(in complete seriousness. I am self-aware of girl-irrationality)

CARISSA: If you are a lady and you have agreed to touch a man, there is no way you can mess up.

ME: Jordan has the opposite opinion. Interesting.
DAN: See? Everyone’s different. That leaves it to you. And tell that no good hack of a poster critic to get off his grease rainbow.

ME: Have I told you I’ve been watching Buffy with Matt? She gets stuck in alternate realities just like me!
JORDAN: There are so many parallels between your lives!

  • 5: Inside jokes

Periodically I think about what I could post that would be the most appealing the most people. This is not one of those occasions. It’s often very strange or random what mundane jokes/comments/actions I will really enjoy deep down in my soul. Luckily, my friends can make those comments. Even if they themselves don’t they they’re funny.

ME: And you don’t need to worry about her, I’ll slash her tires.
JORDAN: No job. No car. FIGURE IT OUT.

(Trying to teach Dan how to use the Dropbox…and the internet in general)
DAN: Well I have it so I’ll give it a try to see if this portal works both ways
ME: Don’t forget to click your heels together three times afterwards!
DAN: Man good catch. We all know what happens if you don’t. I would be a half Jackie/Dan and we would have wacky adventures trying to set things normal.

(Matt, explaining his proposed floor plan of the living/dining room. With much dramatic throat clearing and suspense)
MATT: Now…the interior design of the living room is contingent on a kidney bean shaped table.
ME: [Laughter for 10 minutes straight]

(This could come straight out of an indie movie script)
CHRIS: I thought you were supposed to be sad, not me.
    ME: Well, are you?
    CHRIS: Yeah. Are you?
    ME: Yeah.

    (Facebook status for Dan’s dog)
TALLY TORO: fell asleep while tebowing today

  • We could be a sit-com

ME: D-d-d-danger walks behind you…there’s a stranger out to find you…
    [9 hours later]
JEFF: Creepiest 2:30 am text ever.
    >note: In my head it was a just a cheerful quote from
The Duck Tales theme song, but retrospectively….

ME + Sleep deprivation: It’s the needle that put the hay cart over.

CARISSA: The standing rules of “do what you feel” exclude murder, suicide, and incest.

ME: YouTube recommended a video of a malfunctioning Roomba for me. I have a problem.
JARED: Don’t leave me hanging, I wanna see that video too!

KENNY (about his overnight job): I was in a predicament. I like sunshine. I like to eat actual food. Sunshine is free, but food isn’t.

    [During our two-man dance party]
ME: Keep it low, let it grow!
CARISSA: Up high, don’t be shy!

  • A lack!

GRRR! First failure of the 2011.

A late assignment for my online class!

[You DO NOT have to read this tale of woe, skip to “anyway” if you know what’s good for you]

I wanted to go see Common, the key note speaker for MLK Days of Dialogue today at 7pm so I made sure to do my assignments for my online class at 5pm because they’re due at 9pm (I have alarms on my computer). I finished them early and I was all happy snappy.

Thoroughly enjoyed Common’s lecture and got  back a little before 9pm. My friends all disperse to do their homework and I actually had the gumption to make fun of them because I was already done.

Little did I know that I forgot to submit one. Shucks. Submitting stuff online scares me because I don’t think there is an edit button (but maybe there is, I should triple check because they should….).

    Arg! So frustrated!

But, lets be optimistic—maybe this will be my one mistake for 2011 and I’m in the clear now.

Let get away from my self-deprecating tendencies—About Common’s lecture. Common is a conscious rapper.  I’m not familiar with him, but my friends really enjoy his music so I was more than happy to go along to hear him speak and to support MLK Days of Dialogue. It was a good presentation. He broke the ice with a short freestyle about Laramie, talk about his childhood, his beliefs, all tide together with the message that we have greatness inside of us.

My favorite part was a quote he used by Nelson Mandela:

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

Ps. I hope to snag a picture from the lecture eventually.

  • Quotes: 21st Birthday

A little late, but still welcome…

Jeff: Are you going to the bars at midnight tonight?
Me: Ha, no. I’m going to finish a cross stitch pattern :)
Jeff: But you can already legally cross stitch!

    >>This was on my birthday card which I thought was perfect:

    Roses are red
    Violets are blue
    You are awkward,
    we are too.
